Hello everyone and welcome to my very first post. I am genuinely excited to be writing again especially about my favorite topic fishing.
I thought the best way to start this blog was with a recent trip to Black Point Park in Homestead. Nothing complicated just shoreline fishing and seeing what would bite.
The day began with a stop at the Old Cutler Bait and Tackle on Old Cutler Road. My friend and I picked up three dozen shrimp for about twenty dollars which we felt would easily last us the day. If we ran low our plan was to cast net some mullet once we arrived at the fishing spot.
We wanted to do some saltwater fishing as well as freshwater fishing for peacock bass. We started with saltwater until the sun came up a bit and then went to see if we could find some peacock bass.
Fishing the Black Point Marina for Saltwater Species
The park where we fished is open sun up to sun down, so we made sure to get there at sunrise, to make sure that we could get a spot to fish. We figured, since it was Saturday, that people would be fishing all up and down the peninsula that we were fishing.
SO let’s break down the day of fishing and create a table of the spots, what the tide was doing, and what fish were caught and where. Below is the various locations that we fished.
The first location where we fished was the very end of the peninsula, which looked like this:
We then worked our way back to the marina and where the parking lot was throughout the day, trying 4 other pots on the way in. Below are the various conditions as well as the fish that were caught.

The incoming tide was definitely key for the fish. We noticed that the amount of mangrove snappers that we saw increased as we made our way to the marina. The sun also came out, which could have helped.
Fishing Black Point Marina for Peacock Bass
We ended our saltwater fishing excursion around 12:30 pm and decided to try a canal near Black Point Marina. The place that we fished was right at the entrance to the marina, where the bike path crosses the street.
I used a Rapa X-rap lure and my buddy used a worm lure. I had one bite, but that was it. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to catch the elusive Florida peacock bass, but maybe we can next time.
